Type of Camp
Pine Forest Camp is an all-around, overnight camp, which means that we’re summer home to all kinds of kids and all kinds of counselors! We offer over 40 activities for campers to choose from, and campers participate in a well-rounded schedule. Camp activities include team sports and general athletics, fitness, outdoor adventure programs, overnight camping, creative arts, boating, and much more.
Where our counselors are from: We mainly recruit from colleges and universities across the United States. About 10% of our staff is from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Pine Forest is located in Greeley, Pennsylvania; about 45 minutes northeast of Scranton, in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. We are a 1.5 hour drive from New York City and 2.5 hours from Philadelphia, 5 hours from Boston. Counselors who are flying to camp should make arrangements to arrive at Newark Airport.
Days Off
Counselors have 5 days off during the summer. This breaks down to about one day a week since we do not take off the first or the last week of the summer.
Job Description
You will fulfill two roles while at camp. The first and most important is as a counselor. Counselors are exceptional people and role models who have been hired after extensive interviews and background checks. Counselors take the role of caring for other peoples’ children with the utmost seriousness and they are ready to and excited about putting the needs of children before their own. Counselors live in a bunk with 8-10 campers and 2 co-counselors. There, they are responsible for each child’s general welfare. This includes handling miscommunications, comforting campers with homesickness, helping and guiding campers to clean their cabins daily, and much more. The other part of your job involves teaching an activity that you have interest and experience in. Activities include coaching sports, leading adventure activities, teaching arts, drama, media, just to name a few.
Being a camp counselor isn’t easy, but we think it’s the best job in the world.
